I saw this interesting article today addressing the performance of African American students in law school.

Hi Ann, I’m not sure how to ask a general question on the blog yet, so I apologize. I was a huge fan of your old blog too! I was wondering if it was a big no no to send in a diversity statement to a school that didn’t ask for one. Seeing as I have a low GPA (from a past medical problem) and a mediocre LSAT score, I thought every little bit that shows I can write would help. Thanks so much in advance!

Hi Jennifer,
It’s actually the exact same blog, and the exact same substance. I just made it a bit prettier and changed the URL to my own website. But I’m glad you like it!
If a school doesn’t ask for a diversity essay, then your personal statement was your opportunity to share that information. But, you could try calling each school and asking whether sending an additional essay would help. Different ad com members view these things differently.
I believe in following directions and working within the framework provided.
