2024 Law School Admission Cycle Timeline

Law School Expert Blog

If you’re applying for law school in the fall of 2024 to start law school in the fall of 2025, this is the time to create your timeline. The first thing you need to do is plan to submit applications in September, October or November depending on when you receive an LSAT score you’re happy to move forward with.  Luckily, there are four LSAT dates this year that will enable you to do this.

Start studying now for an LSAT this fall. Most people study a total of six months for the LSAT, so this is the perfect time to get started. While you’re studying, you’ll also start working on other parts of your law school applications, including your law school personal statement, resume, addenda and diverse perspective essay. You can ask for letters of recommendation and get your transcripts sent to LSAC as soon as your grades from this term are submitted (if you’re still in school).

If you spend the next 4-5 months working on these items, you’ll be in great shape to apply to law school in the fall. Applying early in the cycle helps you take advantage of rolling admissions. While there’s no advantage to applying in September versus October, you will get better results by applying before Thanksgiving. If something happens and you end up applying in December, it’s not the end of the world. However, applying in January will generally not get you the same results- especially at reach schools. You also will be more competitive for scholarship dollars by applying earlier in the cycle.

Now is the time to set yourself up for success and apply to law school this fall.
